Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your questions about deposit returns

Do I have to rinse bottles and cans?

No, you don't need to. The most important thing is that the beverage container is empty. The reverse vending machine just needs to be able to read the barcode.

Can I return damaged bottles and cans for deposit?

It depends on how badly they are damaged. If the barcode is legible, they are usually accepted. If you are in doubt, feel free to ask in the store. Test the bottle or can in a reverse vending machine. The barcode must be legible.

What about imported bottles?

We have entered approximately 10,000 foreign barcodes into the system, which means that most Swedish cans are eligible for deposit. You will not receive a deposit refund, but the cans will be recycled and turned into new ones.

Will I always get my deposit back?

Yes, as long as the beverage container can be returned for deposit and the barcode is legible. You will either receive a receipt that you can use in the store or a cash refund

What happens to unclaimed deposits?

Unclaimed deposit money goes towards operating and further developing the deposit system.
